The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Review

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Pages :389
Date of publication : June 13th, 2017

Synopsis :Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

Review: I don't know where to start... I was so scared to start this book because there's such a hype around it! I saw it on Tiktok all the time and I felt a pressure to like it like everybody else. But I understand why everyone love it now! It was sooo good! I was at page 20 and was already sucked in wanting to know more about Evelyn and all of her husbands. I started it when I was on a cruise in the Caribbean so I couldn't finish it in one sitting since we had activities but it only took me a day to read it.

I'm gonna start with her writing. I absolutely loved it! I haven't read any other book by this author yet but I definitely will. During part of the book, I had the impression that the characters really existed and that I was reading a biography and not a fiction. So we can say that Taylor did a really good job!

Evelyn is a new favorite of mine now. She was so ambitious, fierce, strong bat at the same time vulnerable too. She did everything she could to make her dream come true. I'm gonna remember her for a long time! I loved seeing how all of her relationships changed her. The romance in this book is phenomenal! My feelings we're all over the place.. I don't remember crying that much for fictional characters. I was so attached to them...

One part that I also loved was that this book showed us how different reality in Hollywood can be compare to what we see in the media. We only see what they want us to see. It also talk about so many topics that we're taboo at that time.

I'm such a fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid now! I can'T wait to read more of her books. This one is definitely in my top 5 favorite book. I wish I could read it for the first time again! Let me know which book from her I should read next!
